TRIR industry averages, 2025

All company sizes combined. The industry average weights big employers heavily; the median is the typical workplace. Many workplaces report zero cases, so the median is often far below the average.

Why the ranking is fair to small companies

The rates

TRIR = (H + I + J) × 200,000 ÷ hours
DART = (H + I) × 200,000 ÷ hours

200,000 hours is 100 full-time workers for a year, the standard OSHA base.

The problem with plain rankings

One injury at a 40-person shop gives a TRIR near 2.5. A simple ranking would call that firm worse than half its industry, though the difference is mostly luck. Large employers rarely swing that much.

What this tool does

It fits a Poisson–gamma model to each industry and size class, then pulls small-company rates toward the industry level in proportion to how little data they carry. The range shows where your true rate likely sits (80% interval).
